Default thinking of migrating from bmw ....

first off, ill introduce myself.... im a very active member of e46fanatics.com and addicted to bmws, but i have a soft spot for the b5 chasis...

i have a 2002 blk bmw 325ci auto (i know i know) with all the options.... but its slow

i was going to upgrade to a 03.5 M3, but the 36-37k pricetag is alittle intense since i got 20k liquid to work with but i got 15k at least in the car if i sold it so id be covered.

ive loved b5 s4s since the days of jackass lol when i used to admire bams nogaro blue b5.

im thinking it would be a wiser decision to pick up an 01 s4 for about 15k with 60-70k miles and possibly do the giac/ko4/downpipes/intake route. (assuming the ko3s are probably on there way out)

i googled ko4 real quick and the turbos can be had for 795 or so, do i need the rs4 intercooler as well?

im going to search in a few but i just found this forum so i figured id get better responses just posting.

dear god man, i was gunna say.

u won't be disappointed, that price sounds about right. but if u get the car there are a few things to look at. timing belt of course and making it reliable. throttle body boot cracks, and DV's. all in all, you'll be looking at some hefty money for a stage 3, i doubt 37k but i mean it'll be quite a bit, and with this car you have to remember that how you treat the car depends on it's reliability. you'll find a lot more info in the search, there's too much to post all.

you could do full stage 3 for roughly 7k give or take some.. No you dont need intercoolers.. but theyre nice to have.. but as you can see i dont have them and im still pretty quick.

I know where you are coming from. I had 3 m-series before getting my s4 (01 m-roadster, 98 m3, 02 m3) and I must say the s4 is just as nice a car and responds much better to mods. The m's are awesome but to really make more power you need to supercharge/turbo them. And the s4 is awd and has more room.

id love to get the M3, and i can, but im going to be "uncomfortable" since ill have 100% cash in cash out lol.... id have to blow my entire acct, get at least 17k for my car and take a few grand loan out, so id go check to check for a year until the loan was paid out.

no to mention its expensive as hell to mod bmws, u can get anyhting outta them without going FI, which STARTS at 7k (5k parts 2k labor)

i did some research and i guess stage 3 is more involving than i previously thought haha, i didnt realise fuel parts had to be messed with, but i found a nice *** yellow 00 for 16k with only 46k.... i can get a 01 with 90+ any day of the week for 14 but thats alittle high miles.

after searching im thinking more along the lines of doing GIAC, turbo timer, exhaust, intake, ssk. what would that be stage 2?
its tough searching this forum for this stuff lol, its so randomly talked about in so many threads, and the search pics up on threads where ppl just ask redundant questions [:@]
.....

and back in jan 05 (soph in college) when i got my current car, i paid 26k cash and stretched myself and it was rough for 5mos until i was working 40hrs a week in the summer, then i got the bank acct back up haha..... and i guarded the dam car with my life, every little swirlmark/scratch drove me nuts, i detailed it once a week for the first year haha, then i ran outta time to keep it that mint constantly so im down to full detail once a month.

but i think if i ended up with a 03.5 m3 (36k) versus a 01 S4 (16k) id feel alot safer, and would actually let other people in the car besides my girlfriend haha, and wouldnt be AS afraid of parking anywhere

it's a great car to have. take it from us. most of us here are s4 owners, with the exception of mott power..... he's just an avid enthusiast without a car (but he still knows his stuff). parts for upgrading are still pricey. but that's the way it is with european imports. but the performance you get with a stage 3 b5 s4 is unlike anything else. the audi quattro system helps a lot with performance.

..... i love audis

i'll only sell if i can find someone to buy it. so far no one's takin' the bait. at least what i'm asking for it. but then i got to thinking maybe i'm asking so much for it to hope that no one buys it..... i've been driving the car a lot recently and just love it. i've even scheduled to take it in to a audi mechanic on monday to have it looked over so that my baby can be rock solid. hopefully he can do it for fairly cheap. wish me luck
