Default timing belt in 2000 s4

hey guys just wondering how much a t belt job would cost to get done and water pump or how long it would take to do it my self i'm in college so i'm pressed for time.

i found an s4 6 speed for 6500 with 118000 miles on it but the owner doesn't know if it has been changed and if it hasn't thats scary!

Around 250 in parts, depending on what else you replaced. That will include a new t-belt, serp belt, water pump, t-stat.

Shop around for labor, 500-800 is what you can expect to pay in labor.

i don't see why not... usually it's not the belt that fails in the timing assembly, usually the tensioner pully is the weak link in the system. mine has 111,000 on it, and i'm finally getting it done. but, you are working on borrowed time if you put it off any longer. for the price your getting it for, and the cost of repairs, your still coming out way ahead in the whole grand scheme of things.
but... if you are going to school, and don't have a solid source of income, this car might not be for you. anything that goes wrong in these cars seems to be double the cost of a honda, or toyota.. or whatever. although, they've got nothing on these cars. there are other things that come into play as for as maintainance is concerned with 100,000 + miles. look over the car really well, listen to it... listen for any kind of drilling noises, funky smells coming the engine compartment, any funny noises in the suspention while driving or turning. they are amazing cars, it will treat you well as long as you are attentive to how the car is performing, but be prepaired to drop some money into it nontheless. good luck!
