Toolsets
I'm looking into purchasing a Vag-com and a Bentley Manual for my '02 S4. I'm a little scared because I don't normally work on cars and have been too afraid in the past to mess anything up.
Screw that. Gotta get my hands dirty and just give it a shot.
Does anyone know where I can get set of good and complete tools? Which tools are most important?
Sorry for the noobish question. I am one.

Lets seee in my personal experience... (last weekend) hahah You will need..... All the allen wrench sizes but get them as sockets. and for the axel bolts u need a size... 17 or 18mm allen, (its huge) usually have to buy separately. Also will need a Torx set, and for the driveshaft u also need the 12 point torx set also. i htink its 8mm specifically. Also need complete socket set, Couple large screwdrivers for leverage. Make sure u got some large breaker bars for the tough bolts. A hard and soft hammer is a must. Blue Loctite. A LIFT! hahah few extensions for sockets every size and length. and for some of the super hard bolts u may want to pick up some of the pivot sockets so you can manuver the ratchet better. Then form there just have the usuall metric wrench set, some screwdrivers yaddy yah.
I pretty much just went with most of the basic tools then bought some of the specifics like the 12 point torx and the huge allen for axel bolt.

Yeah despite what my wife thinks...the money i've spent on my vag com and bentley manual are actually saving us money. I fixed one problem last weekend and cleared the code myself and then next day i discovered another code. So that would have been two trips to the dealer which would be getting close to the cost of the vag and manual. I'm hoping to finally get all the codes taken care of this weekend. I've owned the car 3 weeks now and still havn't been able to pass emissions or get a tag
this will take care of most of what you need tool wise

also the VAG-COM and Bentley Manual are very helpfull and important would say at least a vag-com is a must

you dont necessarly need a VAG-com....if you dont know how to do anything with all the electronics on the car, just get a regular scan tool, way cheaper, and tells you everything you need to diagnose problems...just wont let you reset somethings or get extremely detailed printouts on how the car is performing.
How difficult is it to learn how to use the Vag-Com? I hear from everyone in the forum that it's a MUST have. I hear you though, there would be no sense in getting the vagcom if I won't understand a thing it's telling me.
