how does one check transmission fluid in the S4?

are you talkin bout a manual or auto tranny? not sure about the 4.2lt but on the b5 s4 manual transmission you have to crawl underneath the car and find the fill plug on the driver side of the tranny, loosen it up and stick your finger in there and the fluid level should be right at the fill hole and some my drip out. if you have to reach your finger down in the hole you should change the fluid and add more. i just posted a thread asking about this a few posts down about crawling under my car and theres some links to the DIYs with pics on how to change it that some of the other guys posted. hope that helps
