Default Turbo cool down

I recently purchased a 2000 s4 and I had some questions about cooling down the turbo after driving it. How long and how often do I need to cool down the turbos after driving? Do I only need to cool them down after driving my s4 hard or after everytime I drive it? When I first start my car in the morning I give it a few minutes of idling before I start to drive it, I can hear the turbos whislting and the RPM's reving up, I let the RPM's idle and whislting stop before I begin to drive it. Sometimes I feel it is unnecassary to let them cool down if I am not driving it hard or if I have been stopped at a stoplight or driving slow for a few minutes before putting it in park. Please let me know what you think is the best possible solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you have the time to let your turbos cool then you should do so for about 5-10 minutes depending on how hard you drive. but there are times when i'm sure you can't wait for that long. so the best possible solution i think would be to get a turbo timer. greddy and blitz both make really nice ones and you can put the display where the cupholder is on the dash. it's a perfect fit. and it's also the best possible solution to keep your turbos life.

I don't know if 5-10 minutes is absolutely necessary. If you aren't driving hard, no cool down time is needed. If you do drive hard, 1-3 minutes. That is information purely gleaned from this board and audiworld.com. Most recommend driving slowly/chilled out for the last bit of your drive.

1 to 5 minutes is long enough but the timer gives you a choice, most newer cars don't require a timer unless your driving it hard like race days

5-10 minutes is way overboard... a minute or two should suffice after a hard drive.. maybe slightly longer if youve been racing. All your doing is keeping the oil going into the turbos while they cool off instead of just shutting down when theyre hot.

to sit there after youve parked..yeah its a pretty long time. i mean it obviously wont hurt..just saying its not necessary. even on other cars where turbo timers are more common, ive always known people to set it for 1.5-2 minutes.

If you don't want to get a timer, you can always use the door chime to help you keep time. It chimes for 30 seconds, so when it stops chiming and you want to keep cooling down, just close the door and go another 30 seconds. Whenever my friends ask what I'm doing, I tell them its the poor mans turbo timer.

I read a post that it's best to cool down while you are still driving--more ideal than idling while you are sitting still.
