Default Turbo Question

Hey guys, i was wondering what rpm's your turbos should start spooling up at? I have a GIAC chip, would that make the turbos start spooling at a lower rpm? thanks

I don't think turbos will start to spool up differently - they just spool faster and sustain longer. I could be wrong. Its my initial impression that the K04s don't start spooling as quickly as the K03s...but maybe its just that they come on so much stronger that it doesn't seem they are spooling up right away. In either case they start spooling at very low RPMs - but can't say exactly when. I had a Supercharged MR2 where a little green light when on when the blower spun up (often & always!)

Loved the pics of your car in the Nogaro thread BTW...liked the wheels and was also wondering about your tint. I'm considering some tinting for my Avant...

Took a nice long drive in the historic and beautiful spring Virginia countryside today...about 100 miles give or take - maybe a bit more - went easy on it - particularly off the line...and varied my speeds and kept the revs up a bit (no lagging it....except once crossing a railroad track...and it protested too!)....with 4 of us in the car...did great. Occasionally powered it up a bit - perhaps 1/2 - 2/3 throttle...and man...it loves to move. Seems to spool a bit slower - initially - but then some push! I did pass a few folks (BMWs...its my rule you know...actually they can't poass me - thats my rule...but I changed it around for today...lol) going from 45 to 95-100 before easing it back down to 60-70...cruisin...anyway what i noticed is that my gas milege is noticibly higher then ever before! ya...OK somewhat due to easy starts I imagine...and maybe more sedate constant cruising speeds...but more then that...my trip comp was telling me I could get about 540 miles to the tank (in addition to the 30-40 I had alreadygone!) and I've never seen those kind of numbers...yeah 100+ miles on 1/4 tank...I'm not used to this and I'm very pleasently surprised...I'm used to getting 14 mpg around town! and perhasp 25-26 on the highway at best....

Clutch seems to be working its way in great...I may push it just a bit more tommorow (without the family in the car)...wife was getting a bit scared even at 1/2 throtle! She kept accusing me of driving like a teenager! lol...welll yeah! (actuly wasn't doing much of anything but spooling it up just a bit...she really has no idea...)

I need to tint a bit...wonder if 30% (look perfect really) is allowable in VA without being overly hassled?
