Default Turbo Trouble Take 2

the shop i took my car to said that the loss of boost i have in my turbo is due to a blown oil seal. i'd think that i either have to replace or rebuild that turbo...what the guy at the shop is telling me though, is that in order to take the turbo out and then put the replacement in, requires dropping the engine and will run about 19 hours of labor...does this seem even close to realistic? you can't swap out the turbo w/o doing this???

correct, performing any kind of service on the turbos requires you to pull the engine. 19 hours is about right, then another hour for each turbo swap which come to 21 hours with new turbos installed.

How long it takes really depends on how much experience the person doing it has. Someone who has been working on cars all their life will probably be able to do it a lot faster than someone who hasnt (obviously). I think there is a way to keep the engine in place but is ridiculously complicated and have to remove a lot of other things. If you have the equipment, do it yourself

Yeah I think it was Devils4 that removed the front bumper and some radiator stuff, some hoses and was able to swap out his K04's and put back in his K03 hybrids.

That's not bad, some shops over here quote 26hrs for a turbo swap, but that's also replacing all the valve train seals, & a TB job.

Honestly, if you are going to pay the labor, get K04's in there, it will be worth the extra $1500 over new K03's.
