Two S4s to choose from HELP!
Whats up guys,
New to the forum b/c looking for a B5 S4 to replace my '04 IS300. Today I went and checked out two S4s. I would love any advice you pros can give me.
These are the initial offers from the dealers:
1) 2000 S4 manual 47,000 miles on it asking $29,900. From a used car dealership that will include a 50,000 mile/2 year Audi certified warranty on it. The sales rep is willing to trade in my '04 IS300 with 25,000 miles for $25,500 to make me pay a difference of $4,400.
2) 2001 S4 manaul 40,000 miles on it asking $25,900. From a small car sales shop with (here is the kicker) no warranty. The dealer said they partner with General Electric which can waranty the S4 for $2500 for 50,000/2 year warranty. So that would bring it up to $28,400 with warranty.
Honestly I want to do an almost straight trade for my IS300 (willing to pay no more than $1000 additional).
What do you guys think? Go for one of the two, if so what do you think I could bargain the price down to. Or do you think I should continue looking?
With warranty, would it be cheaper to get insurance afterwards on my own?

Welcome to Audi Forums bgwdivemaster!
Since you're new... check out the START HERE! (click this link) link to get a rundown of the lingo/vocab here at audiforums.
Then be sure to search the archives when you have a question. Chances are the question has been asked before (probably several times) and the archives will have plenty of information to answer your question. If you still need answers, please feel free to ask questions.
Don't feel intimidated; we are all a bunch of pretty cool guys (and gals). Feel free to post advice, comments, ideas, suggestions, and even pics.

Go with the certified Audi warranty. There is no paperwork or waiting on your part with the Audi warranty if you ever have to take the car in for repairs.
Try to get at least 5% off the price, regardless.

Honestly, neither. Go look around a bit at Audi dealerships. Find one that is CPO with a 100K mile warranty. Stick with 2001 or 2002. They are selling S4's for cheap these days. I almost got an avant with 16K miles with CPO 100K mile warranty for $28K. Look around a bit, your IS will be fine until you find a good S.
Thanks for the help guys. So far three different responses. I have a buddy who might be able to get me in on a black book auction, so hopefully that is a good way to scout some better buys. I know I thought the prices were a bit high. Especially for the 2000.
if you have to choose one, i would go for the 2001. Does the '00 have 50K miles left on the warrenty, or 50K from when the car was new? b/c thats not very much if its only 50K left from new. But like amirS4 said, look around a little bit more, and try to stick with the '01-'02 w/ CPO 100K.
