want to buy a 2001.5 S4...
Hey whatsup guys, im new to this forum, just wanted to know some Info. on the S4. First of all i drive a 2002 Volkswagen passat, dont get me wrong, i like the car, but it needs more power. This is why i might consider buying a 2001.5 S4. The reason why i say 2001.5 is because i heard that it has bigger oil lines, which help with the reliability of the turbos. i found a 2001.5 S5 with 59k miles, clean in and out for $21k should i try to negotiate the price, or is it a good price? its all stock. It's triptonic, which brings me to other questions. How much power can a Triptronic trans. hold? I plan on making this a mid 13 second car, what type of mods will i need to achieve this? What kind of 0-60/1/4 mile times can they achieve stock? One last thing, i just turned 19, and im paying around 2k a year for insurance on my 2002 vw passat 1.8Turbo, will the price of my insurace raise? thanks for eveyrthing guys
yes ur insurance will go up but im looking inot getting a s4 and my insurance will go up 157 for a 2001 and 119 for a 200. IF u mean times for u driving u prolly could get 6 0-60 and i dont know what in 1/4mi b/c to many things depend on it. U could prolly get it for 18 or 19 but thats not a bad deal.
Thats not a bad price.. If you can get it cheaper than thats better but your not gettin ripped off. I just bought a 2001.5 a few weeks ago for that price. The 2001.5 is a good choice. You should re-think gettin an automatic. The 6 speed is a big difference. As far as mod's to it you should do a chip, exhaust, diverter valves, and a drop in K&N filter. The cold air intake is not worth the money. As for a chip, I'm gonna go with APR's chip. From the research i did I found them to be the best in my eyes. Insurance should not be too bad. I'm 28 but mine is onle $90 a month for full coverage thru AAA with a low deductable and better than adverage coverage on my plan. Good luck!
Monekyporn sry to correct u but with a chip, exhaust, DV and K&N filter (which wont do much) but his tranny may not be bale to handle that much power. The 6spd tranny is much stronger than the tip tranny. APR and GIAC is all about hwere u want ur power and how u want ur chip to work. No APR or GIAC chip is better is just preference. But other than that i agree with u. U may not want to pay more than 20k b/c that isnt such a good price. yes its under KBB but u should be able to get under it but if u dont hav ethat many s4s around ur area then this is gonna be as low as u could go. The insurance price is gonna be ahrd to say. All the options and all that would be ahrd for one of else to tell u what u would pay just call or email ur insurance agent and tell them teh car and tranny and year and ask them if u wanted to keep ur policy how it is and get a s4 what it would be. Thats teh only way to know.
welcome ...
Heres a good place to start reading about S4 reliability etc. S4 info
I would defenitely think about the TIP transmission. It will be cheaper - but the Tip Tranny cant handle as much power as the 6 speed.
also weigh if wether or not you are interested in the control, feel & responsiveness when driving manual.
If these things arent impotant to you - go ahead w/ the Tip..
However, dont sacrifice for the sake of $. Itll comeback to haunt you in the long run, and youll regret it.
