Default S4 B5 Question :: 2001 vs 2001.5

I read the FAQ and I understand the differences. There is however one concern, how do I identify a 2001 vs a 2001.5? If it doesn't have the sport package (Satin Silver Finished Mirrors)? What is the date the 2001.5 started being manufactured? Where can I look for the manufactured date? I head in the drivers door jam, but I googled that and don't know how reliable that info is.

I suppose what I'm getting at is how does a noob identify a 2001 vs a 2001.5

The 2001.5's started being manufactured in October 2001. I have never been able to find the date stamped anywhere on the car. Your best bet is to call the dealer and give them your VIN if you want the exact manufacture date.

However, this really isn't necessary if you're just looking to see if it's a 2001 or a 2001.5. The badging alone should tell you, the old badge (2000-2001) looks like "//S4" whereas the newer badge is just an "S4" in bigger letters. If you're not familiar with the difference between badges, look at the instrument cluster in the dash. The newer instrument clusters (2001.5-2002) will have the S4 emblem on the Tachometer and the older (2000-2001) will have the emblem on the speedometer. Similarly, the emblem in the cluster will be the newer "S4" on the 2001.5-2002 and the older emblem will be on the 2000-2001.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Looks like audi_ops message posted before my POS internet connection could get the message to the forum, disregard my description between the two badges. The pictures do a much better job explaining

If i were to get a second i would have a very hard time thinking about silver, santorian, and nogaro, then id prolly pick up a nice clean 6 speed pearl with black interior.

You guys totally rock; thank you so much for the info! Much Appreciated! Yeah it's easy to change the badge, but not so likely someone would change the cluster! Great info!
