Default wanting to buy 94 S4. what should i watch fo

first of all im 19, got some knowledge on cars, have spent days at the track w/ my dad and his 03 911. my friends have an e30 m3, 80 porsche, and 325i. i want to be able to run w. them and kill a few of them on the road. i like awd and audis have always had my eye. so its time for me to act seeing as the tranny on my truck just dropped. (wasn;t my fault ;p). i want to know what to keep an eye out. ive been told there is some problems w. the control arm on the 94's, but the guy doesn;t really know much imo. so i want some facts and comments. thanks a bunch

have a look here

are you in europe?
if not.. you're going to be incurring so many shipping and licensing fees that an American S4 might be a better choice. much more powerful and fun (and better looking) too.

I am also new to this message board and completely interested in getting a 2000 or 2001 S4. I'm kinda hesitant just for the fact that I've heard that S4's tend to have problems after 40 or 50K in miles. (Turbo's, leaks, etc.) I cannot afford a new S4 so I'm looking used. Actually I'd almost prefer a used one -- less expensive and I'd like to do some mods to it. Also I look the look and body on the '00 and '01.

Can anyone tell me how long an S4 can be expected to live though? Can they live up to 100K or 150K ? more?

How many miles are too many miles to buy on a used S4?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

im thinking no more than 10G's a few over if necessary. ive seen them on S-car classifieds for 8500 and the seller says its put together real well still. no im not in euro, wish i was though. i plan on tracking it every now and then. what sort of routine maintence would need to be done? what sort of problems are consistant w/ that generation S4?

well to start with, the S4 didn't land in North America until 2000. so unless you're importing from europe, you're not gonna find anything prior to 2000 around here. but.. the steering wheel on the right side would be damn cool .

which generation S4 are you asking about? your '94 or a B5?
not sure about the '94.. never really had any intrest in it. but for a B5 the MAJOR problem involves turbos. Not only are there 2 to worry about, and they are prone to failure, but you have to remove the engine completly to replace them.

i have no clue if a 94 is a b5. i have found a few s4s for sale in the US in the price range im lookin at so lisceing and all that jazz isn;t an issue. are the turbos **** to breaking due to lack of service, mileage, wear or what? are they just faulty?

it's not, it's a B4

i was wondering if you wanted a B4 or a B5. if you're finding S4s in the states... they are newer than 2000. Unless they have been imported, but I highly doubt that too many B4s have been shipped over, it's VERY expensive, so i doubt B4s are what you're finding all over the place.
if you enjoy the body style of the B4s, and you actually find one imported to the states, then go for it. it would be a very unique car. but keep in mind it is very underpowered in comparison to the later S4s. the '94 your looking at is running a 2.2T inline 5, as opposed to a biturbo V6... or even a 4.2 V8 of the later years

EDIT: ADD: I'm not too knowledgabe with B4s, but i'm actually pretty certain that they were vry reliable and solid cars. i see a couple B4s running around here in Canada and they look to be in great condition, never payed attention to whether or not they are S4s or not. but anything that last this long in canada and is that old must be very reliable

8500 bucks for a 94 is the cheapest ive found. i know of very few people, who are exceptional drivers, that would be able to control it at the limits. as a daily driver and first sport sedan its fine for me. i only 19 and don;t want to spoil my driving career at this early of an age. although i am spoiled in being able to drive an 03 911 on a track

lol, spoiled on looking at an S4 too!
i'm 18...right now... i don't even have a car.
if you're fond of the look of the B4s... go for it, IMO 8500 is a little high for SUCH an old car... we're talkin about an 11 year olf 5cyl TURBO here... after 11 years, i'd make sure the turbo has been replaced. for a german car... with a turbo, you're gonna want to see maint records, and all that jazz. i'd be very careful. for around 13K.. you might be able to pick up a 2000 S4
