What does that button on the B-pillar do?

What does that button on the B-pillar do?
on the inside of my 01.5 S4, there is a button low on the B-pillar. It has a picture of a car with what looks like a speaker on the ceiling. If you push it, it lights up a little LED on the upper left of the button. it doesn't seem to do anything...
any ideas?
also, what is that thing that is next to the ashtray in the rear? i just have this plastic cover thing with a metal bracket thing on the inside and it looks like a space for something...but what?
