When you bought your S4 B5
So I'm going to buy (FOR SURE) a B5 in about 2 weeks. My question to all you gurus is: What mileage did you purchase yours at, and were there any immediate problems you had with it?
I'm looking into some around the MI/OH area with about 40-80k miles on them..all ranging from about $13k-18K. Also, I'm really looking for something with a warranty because I've heard numerous remarks about turbo's going out, as well as other minor things occuring within the 100k mile mark.
I guess what I'm looking for is this: If you indeed bought yours without a warranty...did you regret it? Did it bite you in the *** in terms of repair costs etc? My budget for a car is about $20k, so I could spend a little bit if in fact I did buy one without a warranty..and I needed to get it fixed.
Also..as soon as I purchase one I plan on already have an APR bi-pipe and the R1 diverter valves ready to be thrown into the engine, since I've heard those are the immediate fixes one should do to ease the stress on the turbos. Is there anything else (in terms of efficiency and not performance) that I should look into?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...and here are some links to the ones that I am looking at right now...all of which are TIP due to personal/girlfriend wants to be able to drive it reasons...>.<. Let me know which one you would go for...if you have time to look! Thanks!

theres a sticky at the top of this section that has alot of info for you...

sounds like youre on the right track w/ DVs & Bipipe -
although 710n's are a good cost effective alternative
also - if it has a warranty - even better IMO..
Id go for the one w/ the Warranty...
Good luck on your purchase & welcome to the forums

Thanks for the input bro. Yeha i checked out the sticky and learned a lot from there (bipipe, DV, etc) but I wanted to know more about people's personal experience buying their audi w or w/out a warranty...ya know. Anyways, thanks for the help andI'll definitely be looking for one with a warranty cause it's the best of both worlds!
i bought my 2000 with a6 year 90k milewarranty and only got to replace the radio with it...it wasn't until after the warranty expired that i started to have problems. i personally wouldn't base my decision on whether the car comes with a warranty, although it would be nice to have. i would rather have one with low mileage that's dealer maintained.
I'm buying a 2000 S4 in less than 2 days that has 67k on it and I'm paying $15k for it. I'm glad to read this thread because I'm in the exact same boat with pretty much the exact same questions.
Don't know if it makes any difference but instead of getting a warranty, I put a little $$ into a money market account with an additional$50 auto deposit monthly. That way I'll have the $$ for emergency repairs but I won't have to worry about a warranty expiring. Just a little something that I picked up when researching whether to get a warranty or not.
Plus I've had an A4 for 2 1/2 years now so I know that if you do the work yourself and find good deals on parts then you'll save a TON. Case in point: the guy that I'm buying the S4 from paid over $1000 to have the front upper control arms and tie rod ends replaced. I bought the parts off ebay for $150 and put them on my A4 myself.
If you have a little mechanical ability and a will to do the work (ie not paying $1000) then you'll probably be just fine.

Thanks drkenan! That's a really good idea. I was already planning on investing some into a mutual fund at the end of June along with buying the car. My buddy works at Franklin Temp and he said he can hook me up with a family thing so I can avoid the FT/broker fees etc. Anyways...that's what I'll do if I can't find one that comes with a warranty...just put some into the fund every month specifically for the ride!!! Great advice!
well the truth is that i'm not using the S4 to go crazy often and such. Also, since my life is going to be so crazy (entering Michigan's Masters of Architecture program) the less things to worry about the better (clutch, fly, etc).
