Default Wipers Stick but only below freezing

2002 S4.....when it gets below freezing my windshield wipers start acting up. They'll either get stuck in the middle and not respond or not turn off and keep running. 30 seconds later they start working properly and then act up again soon after. If I turn off the car and restart it, the issue clears up....but then it will reoccur. Only happens when it's below like 30 degrees. Thoughts on if it's the wiper motor or switch??

Sound like maybe a expose wire and is causing issues when moisture become frozen on it. I know it's not the most detail description but you might want to look around the wiper motor of any crack or loose wires.

It's the combo stalk switch. The contacts are most likely worn and are just worse when it's cold.

That would explain why they wouldn't turn off.

If it were a loose wire or connector they would only have trouble staying ON,

and not both ON and OFF.

Replace the stalk.

My 2001 A6 does exactly the same thing. Haven't figured it out yet but I'm working on it. I'll let you know if I figure it out.

It happened to my wifes s4 and it ended up being the switch.
That's why I mentioned it above.
