Hey guys looking to pick up a clean s4 with only 100kmiles all required maintenance has been done. the only issue with the car is that the passenger side turbo is bad. The car is really far away so its not like I can go look at it and come back. My question is can I replace the blown turbo with a Borg warner k04 and a month later replace the driver side? Only reason im asking is because my buddy has a brand new k04 for an amazing price but just has one. The car does havea stage 1 APR tune. Please help me out guys thanks!

 

are you asking if you can run one k03 and one k04? if thats the case, i doubt it. these cars are twin turbo not sequential. are you even sure that the turbo your friend has is for the side the blown turbo is on? the turbos are side specific. you also should know that you need to pull the entire engine to replace these turbos.

how badly blown is the turbo? are you leaking oil?

 

K04s are about $2400 for the pair, you'll want both. ~$1900 for stock K03 replacements. How much do they want for the car? You're gonna be dumping some cash right off the bat.

 

No you can not run different turbo's on each side. It is recommended to change both at the same time regardless. But it is possible to replace the turbo's with the motor in but it actually takes 3 to 4 times longer. I did this to my 00 S4 last year because I didn't feel like pulling the motor. But to do it with the motor in is a serious pita to say the least. Getting the banjo bolts to thread was very aggravating. But like the others stated the turbo's are side specific and if you have to replace them you might as well upgrade but that can be very costly if you can't do the work yourself. Good luck
