i have a 98 quattro with s4 tags on it and steering wheel. its a 5 speed and has a 1.8T . is it really an s4 or did someone add all the little things . also did they even make an s4 with a 1.8t in it ?

 

you have an A4. the U.S didnt get the b5 s4 until 2000. it also only comes in a six speed manual and a five speed automatic. 2.7tt is the only engine the b5 s4 came with.

there is actually a guy that lives down the street from me that has a cactus green A4 with s4 wheels, badges and body kit. the two piece headlights, circular side markers and longer "euro" trunk lid are a dead giveaway.

 

Mine is also a cactus green. And I talked to an audi shop here in my town. They its a possibility. All in all i like the car. I picked it up for 1k and it runs and drives well. Just trying to get a little back ground

 

Fonzo is correct. No S4 ever came with a 1.8L even in Euro Spec. You have an A4 that somebody spent the money on trying to rebadge it as what it is not. The 1.8L is still a great engine and lots of aftermarket power add-ons, but definitely not an S4.

 

if this shop specializes in audi cars and theyre saying it might be an s4, find another shop.

lots of people upgrade their A4's with S4 visual pieces. post some pics of your car and we can tell you what you got going. side skirts, bumpers, headlights, tail lights, wheels, etc. are all swappable.

as sin already said, the 1.8t is still a good engine and has endless, tuning and performance possibilities.

 

thank you guy for the insight. i ran the vin and it came back A4 i will keep using the shop because they do great work on my 70,s carrera. but all in all i have some good plans for my new toy. and again thank you guys you have been helpful. i will post pics when i get some free time.
