springs only?
Hello all, I'm new to the form and have a 2003 Audi A4 1.8 Quattro. It has the stock (non-sport) suspension and I would like to lower the car mostly to get rid of the annoying gap between the tire and body.
I've heard from a local shop that I can just change the springs only without changing the shocks since they only have 17k miles on them. Has anyone tried this? I always thought that you needed to change out the shocks also. I wouldn't mind saving $500 and change the springs only, but I don't want my cheapness to suffer my car's handling and feel.
Thanks,
David

RE: springs only?
if you just change the springs since you have the non sport shocks your shock will last about another 6 months after it is worth the extra cash to do it now other than paying 2 labour rates down the road

RE: springs only?
Thanks for the reply. Can you explain why the shocks would wear out so soon if I just replace the sprin?. Does it have something to do with the firmer springs being installed or are you estimating that the life of the shock is only around 25k miles?
Thanks,
David
