this morning I ripped my front fender liner of. I guess the reason being there is something missing, what is it?

Maybe its not missing anything! I am referring to the part at the lower engine mount.

 

I just found the same situation on my 2000 A6 Quattro. Don't know what that is either.

 

I could be wrong but I am fairly sure that is the alignment "device" for your sub-frame. There is one on each side and there is a special tool, like for all Audi stuff, that should fit neatly thru all three holes IF it won't that means your sub-frame is out of alignment and they list a procedure for fixing it. Yours looks to be fairly good. My A6 has the same thing and I only just saw a picture of that area in the repair manual.
