Im hearing a noise when I get in small holes on the street or even small cracks. it sounds like a "clack" it was first only in the passanger front tire and now the driver front is starting to do it too. my dad said it was the shocks but I wanted to know if this has happened to u guys or have a clue of what it is... thanks a lot.. I forgot about something else... when Im stopped, I feel like the engine does a small shake. the rpm neddle its at 1 right and u can see it go a bit down and then up.. what u guys think?

 

tie rods.

try the search feautre, there's tons of threads on this.

 

i no the older a4's had a recall on the tie rod bushings, you should look into it...... im not sure if it was 96-98 or 96-99

 

i have the same problem....i have a 99.5 and everytime i go trought a hole or cracks it makes a horrible noise. i thought it was because of my suspention i have KYB shocksand H&R spring with 18" wheels!!
i recently got aligment and rotation on my tires but nothing, it still makes the noise!!!
