Quiet tires on an A3
Have a 2006 A3. After 10-12,000 miles the lousy original tires (Bridgestone?) were cuping and super noisy.
I went to Michelin Pilot Spot PE2s which were much, much quieter and handling was great with them.
They do cost ~$180 each, so for the past couple of years I moved to Sumitomo HTR PO1s which are $116 each (225/45R17). They are even quieter and handling is fine. Seem to last just as long as the Michelins.
Just FYI

If you have any other questions feel free to shoot me a PM and I will be happy to help!
I replaced the OEM Pirelli PZeros on our GTI with Yokohama AVID ENVigors; not only are the Yokos are they considerably quieter than the Pirellis, they cost less and have a significantly higher TreadWear indicator (560 vs. 400).
I dont worry about tread wear as much as wet track performance (specifically) and overall performance. Pirelli, Conti , and Hankook have models with some of the best scores in both catagories.
I value quiet above all else.
I used the tires in the below post, and love them -- note -- since then I have put 70K miles on these tires and they are just now beginning to need replacing.
