On pg. 55, you can see that G632 is part of the mechatronics. Which is why the protocol is to replace the whole mechatronics. Since replacing it didn't work, there's nothing more the dealership can replace. The next step is to open up the gears and really dig into what's causing the error. Time-wise, it's not cost effective. So I've read people getting mechatronics replaced again and again before Audi finally relent and replace the whole thing.

Thank you very much. Great to get a better look of the workings of the gearbox. One last question, the sensor which the new service centre want to replace is the 0B5927321L Car Automatic Gear Position Sensor Module. Is this Part G182 in the manual ? Do you have to drop the gearbox to replace this part ?

Once again, your input is greatly appreciated.

It sure looks like G182 is NOT part of the mechatronics. However, it looks like the transmission would need to be dropped and opened up to replace it. $3700 fix for one guy. That's about half the cost of a new transmission.

Guys
The reason given for the repair to my brand new A5 gearbox taking five plus weeks, rather than the 1.5 weeks originally quoted, was that once the mechatronic controller was replaced, they then discovered that a second component had also failed. So it seems that they had to go in again to make the second component replacement.....
I’m sorry that I cannot recall exactly what name they gave to the second unit.
After three attempts, the dealer workshop finally gave up telling me the growl I’d been complaining about was “normal”. This time it was diagnosed as a shield that was vibrating in sympathy with the gearbox revs. This was sort of rectified by installing some sound deadening material. Not a perfect fix. I can still make the noise occur, especially if I hold the gearbox in 2nd gear (S2 or M2).
None of this instills any confidence in the workshop or vehicle. Not happy......
