Automatic shift boot

Has anyone ever tried replacing the ribbed plastic housing on the automatic shifter with a leather shift boot? I remember reading a few posts regarding this topic but there was no definite answer at the end of the thread.
 
I think it would look nice as a replacement but I'm wondering about the costs/procedure.

Maybe a better question would be if it's possible to fit a shifter from a Q7 onto a B6 A4?

No one has done anything like this before?

my shifter gate is all scratched up, i need a new one...

the shifter from the Q7 seems a little big, no? and its recessed into the middle console. Would be sweet though
