Default Burning Smell? Help please.

I've not had my Audi long, it's a 1.9 TDI (1995 model) and during the first week of driving it I took it out to the country to test it out a bit.

Drove it quite hard and braked hard etc. so I knew how the car handles.

When doing this I got a burning smell similar to a clutch or brake or possibley oil smell from the front of the car. It worried me so I stopped driving it hard and the next morning the smell had gone.

I hadn't had them smell return until last night while just driving it normally with the odd bit of acceleration every now and then. Today while driving to work I have opened the car up slightly, but not too much (about 60 mph, but accelerated average to quick) and the smell appeared again.

I can smell it inside the car and then when I get out it's quite a strong smell.

I used to drive a Fiat many years back and had the same smell once. The next day the Fiat set on fire with an oil fire or something.

I am worried as I don't want my Audi to catch fire.

Not sure if it's oil, clutch or brakes, but I am worried.

Can anyone advise of any common faults for me to check or anything at all I should check please?

Thanks

I would bet its the clutch if you were driving it hard. Maybe it needs to be replaced.

Are there any other signs that might appear with the car that would point me towards this that I can look out for?
