01 1.8t Engine failure, options?
I just bought an 01 A4 1.8t w/ auto about a month ago, and the engine is now shot, evidently bc of the (what seems to be very common) issue of sludge. I've seen all of the things online about a class action lawsuit, etc. but I'm looking for advice as to what exactly I should do with the car.
The audi dealership told me to contact Audi of America and pitch a fit. I seriously doubt this would do any good - I mean, I bought a used car with 142k miles, but I guess it's an option. A used engine seems to run around
$2k and I have someone who will replace it for $600.
Here are my options right now; I would appreciate some feedback from anyone who can help...
Do I replace the motor at what's looking to be about 2500 or more? The car is in well above average shape, the exterior and interior are both in very good condition.
Should I just sell the car as it sits? I'm leaning towards this one - and if I did so, can someone give me a ballpark figure of what it might be worth as is?
Or, should I consider keeping the car and parting it out?
I realize much of this is just a personal decision, but I would still appreciate any feedback/advice from you all. Thanks for any help...

your best option is to sell it (or part it out) and get something else.
the only way it would be a keeper is if you don't need to drive it anytime soon, and have the tools, talent, time and space to fix it yourself.
good luck
