ticking noise code p0011
hello
I'm having some issue on my 2001 audi a4 1.8t. I put gas (Premium gas) in my car and start to drive home when the car starting jerking. I didn't think anything of it since it was at idle. When i got close to the house the engine starting making this really loud ticking noise before that my oil presusre light came on, i check the oil level and it was fine. I wasn't due for an oil change. I did some research, found that doing an engine flush would help so i did and changed the oil (Mobil 1 Fully synthetic 10w-30) is still same noise. The ticking only happens when it's at 2000 rmp or lower. I check the codes and it pops up with p0011 (camshaft position bank 1). I haven't driven the since. Had to buy a new car but i would really like to know what causing this issue and how i can fix it.

My first guess would be the variable cam timing actuator. P0011 means the crank and cam position are not in sync. Could be the nylon chain guide(s) broke or the actuator itself has failed. It's under the cover on back of the cylinder head. Seeing as there was a loss of oil pressure, probably something came apart on the cam actuator allowing oil to bypass, basically a large internal leak.
I wouldn't run the engine until the problem is found. If the chain slips or breaks, valve WILL be bent.
