Default A6 Allroad 3.0 245ps S-Tronic - mysterious rattle

Hi,

I have a new A6 Allroad 3.0 (245ps) S-Tronic with an annoying rattle.

These are the symptons:

- subtle rattle heard around 1,200-1,500rpm,
- heard when gently easing on, easing off (not heard in neutral),
- it is subtle but once tuned into it, quite annoying,
- occurs at a similar time to a slight harshness in transmission sound,
- most noticeable when the car is warm (e.g., after driving on motorway),
- never heard when the car is cold.

I'm sorry that the description cannot be more specific. The car has only 2,000 miles on it, noticed this after 700 miles. What could it be!? I've been to an Audi dealer, he reckoned it was cheap fuel (cough) but problem persists. Dealer has not looked at anything yet. To me, it sounds like something is vibrating, although it is quite subtle. Maybe it is normal sound of the S-Tronic box? Can any other owners comment?

I can try to drive another vehicle, to compare. My worry is that each dealer will just say it is normal. However, considering the refinement in the rest of the rev range, I find it difficult to believe it should sound crap around those RPM. It would be great to get some advice and opinions.

Regards,

James
