Ecu reset

Ecu reset
So...I've been trying to figure out how to successfully reset the ECU on my A4. I came across a few instructions online but none successfully did the job i dont think.
my car 1996 A4 B5.
Is the ECU Housed in a black box near the windshield , marked with an umbrella symbol?
Anyway...I disconnected this units wiring assuming it was the ECU and disconnected the "-" battery terminal then reconnected. Nothing though suggested to me that I was successful in the reset.
Please Help Guys?

Just disconnect the battery for an hour or so (enough time for the capacitors to discharge). It puts the computer into relearn mode. Do a search on "throttle body alignment" on this site, as you'll need to do one afterward.
OP, why are you resetting it?

If you just want to reset the ECU you can either leave the battery disconnected for a lengthy amount of time, or you can perform a 30 power reset. Basically you take off both battery terminals and touch the terminals together. (the cables on the car NOT THE BATTERY) This will discharge the entire system and reset all the modules instantly, all modules will need to be re-adapted if you do this.

Why do ppl usually do an ecu reset?
Throttle body allignment:
"The Throttle is "Drive By Wire" and adapts to your particular driving style. Do a TBA Throttle body adaption).
1. Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.
2. Turn the key to the on position, the position just before the starter turns over.
3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position.
4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off" position(don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
5. Wait 2 mins. for a full alignment. During this time you may hear very faint noises and clicks. I
only heard one sitting in my car, if I got out and popped the hood I might hear more.
6. Drive the car as you always do.
Will this work on an old Audi like mine?
