Default 1988 audi 5000s no start

I am working on a 88' audi 5000s... It was having a hard time starting when cold.. It is not getting any power to the cold start valve or thermotime switch and after removing the fuel line from the cold start valve and reconnecting it I cannot get it to stay running for more than a second when I can finally get it to light off (which takes alot of cranking)... could I have introduced air into the fuel system by disconnecting the fuel line? trying to find out where to bleed the system but the haynes manual I am using absolutly sucks! anybody have to do this before? after I get this figured out than I need to figure out why my cold start circuit isnt getting power.. any help would be very appreciated! Thanks..
