1988 audi shuts down help

Default 1988 audi shuts down help

1988 audi 90 5cyl non quatro 5sp. i will try to explain. when it runs it will suddly shut down than some times i move the distributor cap and it makes light noises than it will start up agian. but sometimes it wont last long, like today i was driving down the highway going 70 and it shuts down than 15 sec when im costing it starts back up and blows a hole in my muffler.. i know my spark plug wires are really bad. but everything els is new including the distibutor help

I'd start with new wires since you say they are bad.
They could be grounding out due to bad insulation resistance.
