Advice on engine swap....
Hey guys, lookingfor feedback on how best to go about this engine swap I'm considering...
Have a 9180 Q, looking to swap out engine and transfor a 91-97, 20 valve s4-s6 engine/tranny. Things to consider, look out for, price ranges etc. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Advice on engine swap....
2Bennett Audimotive does about one turbo conversion a month and has the process down to a science. On the Audi 90 there is simply not enough room under the hood for the turbo and intercooler. To make the turbo engines fit ( 10V or 20V ) there has to be some metal cutting and fabrication and the right steering linkage must be custom made to loop under the turbo. In front, a new front crossmember is required to carry the intercooler. Then you will have to fit an RS2 bumper with the big air vents to feed the intercooler. Price one of those some time :-0 This job requires 100 hours of labor, it is not the simple drop in people imagine. To swap from a V-6 to a turbo five you need different radiators too. All of these conversions require model specific under hood wiring, emissions controls and ECU. With a used doner engine and all the labor figure it's a $12,000-$15,000 job.
Something that is a lot easier and less costly is to have 2Bennett make a new engine cradle and install a used 4.2 liter V-8 from an A8. This will set you back around $4500 all up. The 4.2 liter V-8 makes 300 hp and because the block is aluminum it weighs 75 pounds less than any of the fives. This is the way to go. No turbo cooling and lubrication problems, no turbo lag and run on ( nothing like trying to outguess a turbo on a technical mountain road ), just lots of silent torque rich power. I have seen two of these conversions and they are very sanitary.
