Default Another Possible Allroad Buyer Questions

Hello,

I've read quite a bit about allroads but I'm still not sure it is the right car for my family. I am looking for something with more room and more exciting to drive than our lexus. I've read about the common problems and I believe if I find the right car it shouldn't be an issue as I don't mind working on my cars (in fact I don't let anyone else work on them) and I am used to maintaining a land rover; however, I don't want an unreliable money pit.

What are realistic gas mileage numbers for the 2.7 and the 4.2? I've read posts with people claiming anywhere from 18 to 28 mpg hwy for the 2.8. I haven't found anything for the 4.2. Also how does the software mod affect the mileage of the 2.7? Ideally I would find a 6-speed so that would help.

How long to the turbos usually last and are they difficult to rebuild?

Sorry if this has been covered before and thanks in advance.

I have 2003 Allroad 2.7 BiTurbo.
I love my car, my 18 years old son loves that car too.
Car is FAST, Reliable and BIG. No problems in the winter (You go everywhere you want, you see people looking at you when you go into the piles of snow that they would never go thru) I Have 82k miles on it, all i changed is left front Air Spring (Leak problem) Now its all good.
Gas mileage... Ekhem... Im gonna tell you that way, if you dont mind spending alot of gas, then get this car. I do around 250-270 Miles per 18 Gallon tank... With regular driving around the city... on my way from NJ to NC i hit 480 miles on the tank.

Juno,

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate the numbers you gave me as people and/or organizations like to give numbers that aren't always realistic. I assumed you had a couple of gallons left in the tank so roughly 18 combined and in the mid to upper 20s highway. That doesn't actually sound to bad compared to my landie and is probably a little less than the lexus.
