Hey all,
been lurking for the past month, doing research and plotting
I've ALWAYS liked the allroad... and now that i'm married my 12 second '95 camaro just doesn't cut it anymore
I've showed the allroad to wife several times, and she actually likes it! woohoo!!
So we've test driven a few, and found one that we put a deposit on last night!
It's an '02 tip w/ around 90,000 miles on it.
From what I can tell, it has (taken from allroadfaq '02 model year specs):
Tiptrontic 5 spd auto tranny
Premium Package
[ul][*]Heated leather streeting wheel w/ Triptronic controls[*]
Xenon headlights[*]
Rear Parktronic Acoustic Parking System[/ul]
Convenience package
[ul][*]
3-position memory seats[*]
Auto dimming/Folding Mirrors[*]
HomeLink remote transmitter[/ul]
Preferred Luxury Package
[ul][*]Powerglass slide/tilt sunroof w/ sunshade[*]Leather Upholstery[/ul]
3D wheels (those funky 2 peice looking ones)
Front and Rear heated Seats
Bose 200 Watt system
Accessories
2 x Rear cargo nets (dog blocker and rear area nets)
Full rear hatch area sliding cover
Looks like the only options the car does NOT have are:
Solar sunroof
Manual rear side window sunshades
Navigation
Portable phone
OnStar telematics
Tire pressure system (i'm not sure if it has this or not - how can I tell?)
Rear seat-mounted side airbags (not sure if it has this or not - how can I tell?)
Notes
It's a little higher miles then I would of liked, but here in canada it's slim pickings
I have looked into importing a car from the US myself, but the deal we got on this one is too good to pass up!
18k CAD
It does come with a 2 year- 40,000 km warranty from a 3rd party company that I wouldn't really trust to do much of anything, but it is there, and states that it will cover engine/transmission issues.
The dealer has receipts from the previous owner for:
Brand new tranny within the past 6 months
Brand new compressor within the past 6 months
Water Pump/timing belt within the past 6 months
Previous owner stated the air suspension was replaced (any way for me to confirm this by looking at the car?)
The Bad - hoping people can help here
With it being a high milage car, it does have some issues... which is why we were able to talk him down so much (from 21,900) - thanks to the forums and research i did!
The auto adjusting headlight light comes on. The previous owner told the dealer that he did not have it reset after the suspension work was done. The lights do seem fine, i test drove it @ night and could see that both lights were level, etc... I'm looking into purchasing Vag-Com immediately, so i should be able to reset that myself correct?
The ESP button on the dash... when I press it, nothing happens. It's like it does not dis-engage? I have read of others on this forum also seeing the same thing. Any input?
The other carswe test drove had the funky ski boot/sock in the middle of the back seat. This car does not have it. I found it very odd... any thoughts? I didn't even think it was an option!
Thoughts
The car drives great, and I really look forward to enjoying it for years to come!
Coming from my 6spd rear-wheel drive camaro, which i've been driving for the past 10 years to this car will be a big change for sure! However, one of the things I enjoyed about my v8 amercian muscle car is wrenching on it, and making it handle and perform better
One of the biggest reasons for the allroad was just this (along with the suspension as i'm a big fan of hiking/camping). It looks like there is quite a large aftermarket available!
And i'm hoping that with the A6/S6 cars sharing the same engine/tranny parts are somewhat easy to come by.
But thats enough of a novel for now... I'll go back to trying to pass away the next few days until we take delivery!
I look forward to joining the 'team'!
Cheers,
Jeff

Welcome to the club bro, the allroad forum gets kinda lonely around here so if you want good info about upgrades go the A6 forum. Its practically the same thing.
thx for the welcome
been driving the car for a few days now and its great! I really like it! The gas mileage isn't so hot, but its much better then my big v8 camaro so thats a good thing

It depends on what motor you have,
2.7T gets around 20 mpg average
4.2L gets around 16 mpg average on the allroad.
If you're getting less than that then i suggest getting VAG COMsoftware for your computerso you can scan your own vehicle and do all sorts of things to your car, another plus for owning a VW/AUDI.
Its an reverse engineered version of the factory scan tool with ALL its functions.
Here is the link. http://www.ross-tech.com/

Yea, so far i'm still on my first tank of gas, but i'm @ roughly half a tank, and only around 130 miles on that tank so far.
So if i get 260 miles per tank, thats only around 14 mpg! Mostly city, but some highway in there so far as well!
I do plan on the vag-com software though as i'm used to being able to tune/log my camaro via laptop as well. It's great to be able to scan/view whats happening!
I've got one hell of a research document started, with all sorts of notes made
I plan the following within the next few weeks:
clean maf
change plugs/wires
change oil
change differential fluid
change transmission fluild
change fuel filter
change air filter
anything else you can think of?
also any suggestions on spark plugs/wires? I've been using NGK plugs in my camaro for the past 5-6 years with good results! Also, any suggestions on fluids?
I've been sending oil samples from my camaro off to dyson labs (www.dysonanalysis.com) for analysis and plan on doing the same with the allroad to see how the oil looks. Dyson will give a recommendation on oil/air filter/etc... based on experience, but i'd love to hear what the common types are from the community!
thx again auditech!

Before changing the oil get a can of seafoam from any autoparts stores in your area, pour about a half a can in the crankcase and let it idle for about 1 hour, then do a complete oil change. This will clean out all of the PCV lines and get rid of any sludge build up the previous owner may have built up using lower than great oil. Try to use full synthetic oils: Amzoil, Redline, Royal Purpleect. Mobil1 is a good oil, but its only a semi synthetic now but its still is a top tier oil.
There are no spark plug wires, (COP set up) NGK plugs is what the dealer uses so thats a good choice.
Other than that, check your vaccum lines for any fraying or leaking because thats a common problem on audi's.................and i think thats it. Enjoy your new ride.
