Going from an A3 to an Allroad, potentially.

Default Going from an A3 to an Allroad, potentially.

I'm considering selling my 06 A3, which has had no problems which I am paying it off at 460/month for an Allroad that may cost $8K - and thus I'd have no monthly payment.

The A3 has been awesome. No mechanical issues beyond a loose bearing; all I've had to do is replace the tires at 18K miles.

The goal is to save money, but still drive a car that I could love. I drive the car to work - 8 miles roundtrip. plus weekend excursions. 7500 miles a year, I average.

so... considering the tradeoff, am I smoking crack to consider that I'd get a decent Allroad for 8K (the one I'm looking at has 120K miles)?

I've read over the common probs section here and I would love to find a 4.2 but they seem rarer and aren't dropping in price like the 2.7s.

Any advice - as blunt as you wanna be, I can take it - is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

best

buying a 120k Allroad without confirmed jobs done like recent Timing Belt, turbo work, seals is potentially expensive. Add torque converter and transmission for automatic models.

If you browse this forum enough, you will no doubt notice that AR is nothing but expensive to upkeep as there are several main failure points in this car.

However, it is not to say that you can get a good unit and be happy with it.

I have an 04 and love it. But ... do NOT buy a used ar! Please!!!!

They are VERY expensive to maintain. Major repairs.

In fact, I'd stringly suggest you unload your a3 before it gets too old (60k?) and you're left with a worthless car.

I'd consider leasing an audi, but will never own another.
