I am wondering if it is absolutely necessary to use an inner tie rod removal tool to remove the inner tie rods in my allroad. I can buy the tool from Harbor Freight for 40 bucks or so, but I'd rather not buy it if I don't need it.

Does anyone out there have much experience with removing the inner tie rod?
