Odd Transmission fixes....
Evening all!
After much handwringing, I had decided to part ways with my '02 allroad. In doing so, I changed the oil and the brakes over the weekend.
Upon restarting the car, which ran fine, I IMMEDIATELY noticed transmission shift issues. I limped it to work yesterday, but when I left work for home, it locked me out of all gears except fifth, and I limped the 30 miles home.
1) The transmission has NEVER given me a problem prior to the minor maintenance I performed last weekend.
2) I changed the front pads, changed the oil, and shook out the air filter. I lost a clip to the air box, so it currently isn't locked down completely.
I just read online (Bentley Publishers - Technical Discussions : Audi A6, 2.7T transmission problems ...) that:
with the following response:
Can there possibly be any truth to this? I've been working on cars for many years, and I've never heard that such a thing could happen. The timing of the issue is very suspect, and I am inclined to believe that I did something incorrect. I should point out that the air filter I shook clean is NOT a K/N... just a simple run of the mill air filter.

Maybe I'm just grasping at straws here...
Any help is appreciated!
*** Edit... Yes, I am an idiot for driving it to work.

Finally, I have found the solution and it is very simple: I am using an K&N air filter: the oil that you have to use to regenerate it after cleaning, has set on the air mass meter. I had to clean this AMM with brake disc cleaner. Problem solved !
Hmm interesting, seems that the code was a side effect of air fuel metering of the mass air sensor. The clutch circuit simply wasn't locking up correctly as a result, and the engine didn't detect the mass air problem because it was in computational means.
That's one thing to always check before jumping into any transaxle problem. You have to be certain absolutely that the engine is operating correctly, or the codes can be simply misleading side effects.
