Free DIY fixes to keep her running
Hey guys,
I don't think there is a thread that covers this topic.
I'd like this thread to cover free little things you can do to your car that will keep it running smoothly and trouble free as I often wonder if there are any little things I could do in my spare time to keep my car running smoothly.
For example; once a year I'll pull out the throttle body and clean it as well as the sensor. Also, I like to clean the MAF sensor. This is all easy to do and cost nothing but your time and a few tools and cleaning agents that you can get anywhere.
A few others
- clean the little filter that's in the air intake before the air filter.
- clean the air filter box itself (gets very dirty after a winter of driving)
- disconnect some cables and wires and clean the contacts and re-lube them with conductive grease
- remove any hose that I can easily get to and inspect it for tears and cuts, clean it and put it back on
That's about all I can think of for now. Obviously these are "I'm really bored and have nothing better to do" projects and although it may not do much for the car, it will help make you more aware of how it's wearing and what you may need to have replaced or fixed down the road. It sure beats being stuck on the side of the road while Ford and Chevy drivers honk as they pass by.
So does anyone else have some little free fixes that's like to share?
