Default RE: Shady Sale??

WOW...!!!This has really hit home for me --- asI am in pretty much the same situation too... Namely:
I too am with the US Forces overseas (but I am a DoD civilian, notmilitary)
Itoo am in the UK
I too am selling my Audi (but its a 2005 A6 Quattro)

There are quite a few of usAmericans herein the UK(military and civilians) and throughout Europe. We are honest, hard-working patriots andvery much LEGIT...!!! However, there are these less than scrupulous folks out there who are try to take advantage of thispatriotic bond ---and most any other situation involving money ---and they are completely BOGUS!!! I agree with most of you that this "Talak" deal seems shady for a number of reasons (which I will highlight later); but in the meantime, if it were me as the buyer, I would ask the seller for:

1. His APO address,
2. His duty phone number (and commercial landline number, not a cellphone number)
3.The name of the installation he is assigned to(not the location)and which unit
4. Once all info is received ---verify it...!!!

Warning signs: In all my years with DoD, I have never heard of the DoD shipping anyone's POV (privately owned vehicle) by military air --- maybe some ultra high ranking General or member of Presidential staff, but highly unlikey for a SGT!! If the DoD pays for shipping, itwill always beshipped by boat --- and it wont arrive in 3 days. In fact you'd be VERY lucky if you got in 3-4 weeks!! You can ship commercially, out of your own pocket(itstillgoes by boat) and costs about $1500.00.

Thousands of American military/DoD folksship their US spec cars to the UK every year... and even very old cars or special models can be 'registered' for use in the UK. Basically, just a matter of changing the lights (so they shine in the other direction) and addinga rear fog light (if it doesnt already have one), allin order to pass the UK's "MOT" test. So, I have a problem believinghe cant get a Jetta registered. They sold Jettas in the UK but they were called Boras. Additionally, one last tell-tale sign that this may NOT be totallylegit is the way Talak shows the price as US 2,950 $ When its written this way its very typical of the way Europeans (non-US) folks write the US dollar amount --- with dollar sign AFTER the amount (instead of in front of the amount the waywe Americansdo it).In this case Iwould be VERY, VERY WARY...So, I say dontgo for it!!!

Sorry for going off like this --- but this really pisses me off because it makes it damn hard for us honest sellers to do business with good folks back in the States.
