Default A3 2.0t quattro? When?

I live in the U.S. and need and want the 2.0t quattro. I live in a hilly area where in the winter it is definently helpfull to have the quattro and I like how they handle. Audi dealer tells me that it is coming sometime this year as an 08 but does anyone know when it will be arriving?

Thanks Jeff

After chatting with lots of Audi dealers I no longer take anything they say very seriously, especially speculation like this. Lots of Americans have been wanting a four cylinder AWD, but this is the first I've heard of it as anything more than mere wishful thinking. Nothing on the internet rumor-mill for '08.

Sorry to veer off topic a little, but has anyone in the states ever done the conversion from fwd to awd? Seems like it wouldn't be like reinventing the wheel or anything.

It will cost you a bit more than getting the 3.2.

As for the 2.0TQ, it will not come as an 08 model. There are production lists for the 08s already. If they were to come out, it would be as an 09 model, which is running very close to the next model in 2010. At that point, you might as well wait for the next one.

I got my money on the 2010 being Quattro...

which will make me angry because thats the same year I was planning on buying my A3 or A4 (and Im going to have to buy used. most likely an 07 or 08)

Shoot, thats to bad. I was talking with a guy at the Fox dealer in Grand Rapids Michigan and he thought it would come this fall so I figured he was right since he worked there but I guess not. That makes sense to believe that its not coming since audis model list for 08 is already out. Well thanks for the help. The car is for my mom and she obviously doesnt need the 3.2l, its a waste of speed for her but oh well..

If it makes you feel any better, the 3.2 isn't really that much faster in a straight line, if at all, than the 2.0. That's because the 3.2 adds a lot of pounds from its all-wheel drive system (and DSG, if you compare to the 2.0 manual). That's what I've read from lots of professional reviews, anyway. Not sure about handling in curves; I'd think the AWD system in the 3.2 would handle better than the straight FWD system in the 2.0.

Stock for stock, the 3.2 will still be faster in a straightline. Chipped 2.0T will be faster from 0-60. On the other hand, you are also correct that the 3.2 will handle much better. We recently had a track day and my mildly modded 3.2 with 3/32 Pzero was close to 2 seconds faster than a Stage II APR. Then again, I understand the driver has a lot to do with it too. But I have also driven a 2.0T on a track before, the handling of AWD is just that much better.

GenII Haldex controller coming soon!

For what its worth... If your mother doesn't care about the speed factor... she will definitely appreciate the improved gas mileage on a 2.0T if they ever go for it!

I would imagine that my coilovers, rear sway bar, and R compound tires would handle very well compared to the Quattro A3. I ran twisties yesterday with other S4's and my car hung in just fine. Just my $.02. But, that's a chunk of change in suspension parts to bring it up to stock Quattro ability.

Cheers!
