A3's With Portable NAV Units

RE: A3's With Portable NAV Units
I use a suction mount most of the time for my TomTom, but I also sometimes use the beanbag on top of the dash. The beanbag would be best, but it's tough a tough fit for the suction cup to stick to it - the power plugsticks out of the bottom of the TomTom and doesn't allow the unit to clear the raised edges of the beanbag. The caution against the suction cup on the windshield is that it does make your car a target for thieves. Even if you remove the suction mount, they still look for the suction ring on your windshield and know that you probably stashed it under the seat.

Vent Mount! I use this , worked great for the cross country drive, easy on/off. Nothing on the windshield for the thieves to look for. I did some pretty hard driving and it never fell off

im not a fan of the vent mount- used them a couple of times- but i dont like the fact that it blocks the vents, and on winter time when the heat is on- certainly dont want to subject the PDA/device to the heat (or cold air from the AC) PLus i wanted a cleaner look.
As far as theft- the only thing visible that i leave is the kuda mount and holder while the PDA is stowed away. And let's face it- if a thief wants something - it doesnt matter what car or what set up- they will break in your car if theyre already determined.

Both seem pretty cool. I also found a guy that used the little weird dash drawer we have as a base for his Garmin suction cup. I may try this and see how stable the thing is.

option 2 is what i have already done: using the console area, i used an IMAK mouse bean bag cushion, as support to hold my GARMIN 255w up. it actually works well and doesn't really slide around..plus i like the discreet feel of it down there.
overall, i think both of these will work -- i just refuse to mount it on the windshield -- i really dislike that option for numerous reasons.
toodles,
e
