I have a 98 A3. It came with a Concert but no code. We got another Concert on Ebay thinking it would be standard fit and could just slot in, but no! This looks identical to the original one and measures 230mm. The hole measures 220mm. The Ebay advert said it would fit any A3/4/6, but it came out of an S3........were they made wider on newer models??Is this why is does not fit? I have it wedged in the hole and it works but looks cr@p. Is there anything I can do to modify it?
Hope someone can offer a solution?

Its probable that the S3 came from a later year, the facelift A3 was possibly 2001, which does have a slightly different centre console to the earlier model. I would doubt that you could modify it, but you can certainly get a Concert from the 96-2001 and it would fit.
