Cell Phone Cradle...
My employer issues personnel a Treo 700WX and mine sits inside the armrest with the power cable sneaking out the front and going underneath to the power supply. A good temporary fix would be a cradle attached to a full-sized cylinder that could sit in the cupholder. This would allow the power supply to stick out the bottom and run past the emergency brake handle to the power source beneath the armrest.

Yeah, that would give horrible feedback. It MIGHT work if you have a CDMA (Sprint/Verizon) phone, but definitely not for a GSM (AT&T/T-Mobile) phone. Cup holder seems to be the best place so far (at least they are good for something right)???

Do Sprint/Verizon Phones not create feedback in our cars?? I have cingular and can't keep the phone within a foot of the HU otherwise I go nuts!
I do not believe that CDMA phones have this issue.

The cause of this buzzing has to do with GSM's "time division" nature. The ever-knowledgeable Keith Nowak, spokesperson for Nokia, explains it as follows: "[[With GSM]] the RF transmitter is turned on/off at a fast rate, and that 'pulsing' is often picked up by nearby devices that don't have good RF shielding. In the case of GSM the pulse rate is 217 Hz, which can be easily heard."
It is more apparent with a BB because it is almost constantly transmitting, either up or down.
GSM phones of any sort are notorious for the "GSM buzz." Any time data or voice is sent or received (which happens a lot on a Blackberry), you can get the buzz. It's just the nature of how GSM networks operate. If the phones were shielded so that they didn't cause interference, they also wouldn't receive a signal.
Put in "plain English," a GSM phone divides each second into 20 "slices." Each call on the network takes its own "slice" so that it doesn't interfere with other phones on the network. The time slicing is what generates the buzz (think of the phone signal turning on and off multiple times each second to grab a free "slice").
Sprint and Verizon phones use CDMA and don't buzz. Each phone on a CDMA network uses a unique "code" to communicate with the network, and thus they can "speak" at the same time without interfering with each other.
Here's a couple of thoughts. First, I keep my Treo 650 in the armrest, and actually snake the cords out of the BACK of the armrest, between the two brackets holding the top on. If you pinch the two brackets together one of them -- on my car the passenger side -- pops out enough to fit a cord through and then I just run it to the power outlets. (My Treo is also my mp3 player, so I run an FM unit through there too.).
Another option is this place: http://www.proclipusa.com/. You can pick a bracket specific to the car and then a holder specific to the device. They look pretty nice, although I don't have any personal experience.
Finally, get the cup holder from Vagparts! It replaces the credit card holder and is an excellent phone holder. It holds my treo snugly, with no risk of it falling out. Plus, you can see it while driving, but it is out of the way. Then when you park, just pop the cupholder back in. I think this is better than the proclip, because I also can put my coffee there. https://sslrelay.com/s74326199.onean...dex.shopscript

if you are not into cradles, you can get anti-slip pad that you can put in on the dash board. (but the way you guys drive, i dont know if thats a good idea)

Your solution: cup holder cradle! Sorry no pics...I was just going outside to snap a pic when i remembered that i have a rental car. 30k miles on an a3 in less than a year brings about all kinda problems!
That cup holder cradle is neat looking, and has an open area at the bottom of the cradle thats good for a charger. very good for visibility and no problems with T-mobile. one problem is that it will render the other cup holder useless!
got the cradle from a verizon store 2 years ago though. used it with last car (mazda) and last phone.
