Default Engine light

So my engine light comes on - I call the audi dealer to make an appointment. Then before I can make it to my scheduled appointment the engine lights turns off so I cancel the appointment.

This has happened twice. Anyone have any ideas what would make an enginte light go on and then turn off?

This did occur after I had my tires changed (that's the only thing that I can think of).

Thanks for the assit

you can disconnect the battery on some cars and there are some you have to have the codes removed.

it's hard to tell without scanning and knowing what codes came up. there's a million things that could set off the check engine light

You should have still gone to the dealer. In many cases when the light goes off the ECM still retains the codes that set the light, which can then be read with an appropriate scanner.

My A3 1.8TFSI (58-plate), 30k miles did this 3 weeks ago, and wouldn't start.

Needed a new engine according to the local Audi garage, thankfully Audi UK gave a good-will gesture since it was 6 months out of warranty, but still hit me for £630.

For such a new car, and so little miles, I'm still shocked, and still complaining,

See https://www.audiforums.com/forum/aud...-years-186398/ for my story :-/
