Default Extended warranty new A3 purchase?.

Any opinions welcome please. You know what its like when you buy a new car, the money people try to sell you everything extra when you do the deal, so here is the extended warranty question....
I have a 2008 A3, with a 60 month payment (pretty low) so that is 5 years. The Audi warranty is 4yr/50k and our car will do apx 10k miles a year. So after 4 yrs we will have about 40k miles, and warranty
will be up. Does it make sense to buy the extended warranty now?(apx $2000) or maybe wait to see where we are at in 3 years or so(it will cost more then). Has anyone bought the extended warranty
with their new Audi? I just cant see alot going wrong with a 40k mile Audi, but what do I know, its my first one! Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Do you have the Audi Care maintenance package that is about $590 that covers the scheduled changes up to 45K miles? This includes the oil changes as well as major services. I would go for that if you didn't purchase it with your car yet.

Otherwise, I'd wait til your car gets up there in miles before looking at extended warranty contracts right now. It wouldn't be worth it at the moment IMO.

An extended warranty is a great way to throw out money, so if that's your goal, go for it. The bank owns your car anyway so if something terrible goes wrong you can just do a voluntary reposession and let them deal with it.

I did the Audi Maintenance package for 595, seemed like a very good deal. I was a big fan of the MINI/BMW free service I used to have, so it will be nice not to worry about $ for service.
Are people really only changing oil at 5k then at 15k ? Seems like 10k miles is along time to go without an oil change, even using full synth.

w-soup, I am in no hurry to spend more loot on a warranty, was just looking for some feedback on the subject...

Extended Warranty is usually administered by a third party. Read the fine print, look on the web, there are plenty of complaints. But basically most of these cover "powertrain" and really all modern cars can get 100,000 miles without much problems or at least they should. Keep on top of your maintenance and be sensitive to changes in your car and you can keep little problems from becoming big expensive problems.

Wait. You can buy into the extended warranty at any time before the current manufacturer's warranty expires. In terms of audicare, I posted an analysis of this earlier today in another thread so just look for it.

Another thing: extended warranties can eat into pre-existing warranties instead of extend them. In other words, you may be covered up to 100K but the warranty will (sometimes) have in fine print,X years -- let's say, 4 years -- OR 100K from time of purchase. Since you already have a 4 year warranty all you've done is extend the mileage to 100K but the extended warranty will expire in 4 years. Think of someone -- like the salesman who is trying to sell you this --being convicted of 2 separate offenses and given 2 jailsentences of 5 & 5: if theyrun concurrently, that's 5 years total; ifconsecutively, 10 years.
