Hey everyone,

I have a 2008 A2 2.0 and when I take off the oil cap, there is a bunch of white gunk built up on it. I cleaned it all off and changed the oil and then checked a while later and the gunk is back. Any idea what this is? Is it normal?

i believe that's normal condensation buildup.

 

If you don't drive it much then there is not enough heat for a sufficient amount of time to blow this condensation out. I had this problem on a air cooled VW a long time ago. If this is not your case then you have an issue where water is getting into your oil. Most likely a head gasket or worse. Have it checked soon to be sure.

 

Some build up like you mentioned is natural. My '07s been doing it since it was new, just a little white gunk on the oil filler cap. There was a long thread about this several months ago, you may want to check it.
