Default Lots of gunk in Valve cover..

Chnaged my Valve cover gaskets today and found a whole lot of gunk in the lid and breather hoses. Does anyone know of some additive that migh clean that up a throughout the entire system? It doesn look like blown head gasket at all its just really hard dark stuff..

that's a sign of poor maintenance oil and filter changes is the biggest culprit

As long as there is no white or yellowish gunk right? What oil do you run?

When i bought it two years ago it ran staight mineral 5W30. Since then I changed it to synthetic, also 5W30. there was no traces of water, or brown/yellow foam. it was just really hard subtance.

Carmelization... signs of improper intervals of oil/filter changes. I wouldn't put anything into the crankcase of my car besides oil... thats whats supposed to be in there. There is a product called Auto-RX thats supposed to gently break down that gunk, and I've seen pictures of the job it does, but I wouldn't trust it in my engine.

That engine flush stuff is pretty sketchy. Don't use it IMO... they're basically solvents and probably will put large carbon deposits in places you don't want them... the oil pick up screen mainly and nobody wants oil starvation

Huh, you learn something new every day. I still think it isn't a good idea to use those engine flush products in modern engines.
