Hard to start- idles at 2000rpm
I own a A3 1.6 WITH 100000 miles, intermittantly it becomes very hard to start then when it does start it idles at 2000rpm. I changed the airflow unit but the problem seems to be persisting. Can any of you Audi boys and girls help me with the problem cos its driving me nuts. Cant put it on a tuning machine cos the engine mangement light doesnt come on and every time it goes near a mechanic it seems to be alright ! I NEED HELP !!!!!!

RE: Hard to start- idles at 2000rpm
Couple of possibilities:
- Throttle body might be out: you can reset it by turning the ignition to the position before 'Start' and leaving it like that for a minute or so before starting the engine
- Faulty engine sensors (e.g. engine speed sensor, temperature, mass air flow, etc): I had problems ('97 1.6) with random stalls and funny revs which turned out to be due to a faulty engine speed sensor. You really need to read the error codes from the engine management system to tell you whether a sensor is faulty. Most Audi dealers and independents should be able to do it.
I'm sure there are probably some other suggestions too - let us know how it goes...

RE: Hard to start- idles at 2000rpm
In response to the kind fella who took the time to respond to my problem, I took my beloved car to a man with a machine who diagnosed the problem to be a faulty engine temparture sensor which got changed for a total cost of £40. RESULT !! Apparantley it was telling the engine that the car was cold when it wasnt and therefor flooding it with petrol. Many thanks kind sir for taking the time to respond to my problem which didnt turn out to be as bad as i 1st thought.
