Has anyone noticed?
I was impressed with the 3.2's performance just in D and didn't even know about the S mode on my first test drive. Second test drive a couple of weeks ago = whoa baby!
I also tried the 2.0 and have to say it was too underpowered for me, stock, unless I put it in S. Of course, I'm not a tuner and I liked the slightly weightier ride of the 3.2....I'm definitely in the minority on this forum.

This is my first day in 'S'. So far it stands for:
Starbucks
Slice(s) of Pizza
SPORT BABY!
I imagine as I drive around town I'll keep putting it in S, until my next fillup that is.
Premium is $2.79 a gallon out here in California.

Just relaxing right now, sipping on a nice "Macallan 12" scotch and reflecting on my "S" mode driving today, as my A3 sleeps peacefully in my garage.
It was a thing of beauty. I wish I lived in Europe where the roads are narrow and curvy and speed limits are non existant.
It did guzzle a good amount of gas, but what the heck, gotta have my fun with my new toy.
I was stuck in about 1 hour and 1/2 of traffic on Route 80 driving home from work this evening and I didnt even notice. Playing around with the trip computer, messing around with the radio and just getting so customed with this car.
Definetly getting more and more fun with my A3 everyday.
And Hey Jefferson, looks like were both loving life with our A3's!

That's Right! Lovin life in the A3. Funny, I hadn't read your post yet, but last night I was waiting to meet a friend and had to sit around in the car for a few minute. I reclined the drivers seat, turned up the tunes and actually found myself putting my arm around the right passengers seat as I reclined back.
I caught myself and laughed. Yep, she's a beauty.

Not too take too much away from the S mode conversation...but colder (thus denser) air will also make for better acceleration.
So, if you're experiencing colder weather now then when you did when you picked her up, that might have an impact.
On the down side, colder weather also makes the tires less 'sticky', so don't wrap yourself around a tree enjoying the new found power...

I bet! My outgoing WRX becomes a friggin' slug in the summertime. Unfortunately it's just now becoming more fun to drive in colder weather, just as I'm about to trade it in....as if to say 'keep meeeee!'
Just had my A3 for a week now and understand everyones enthusiasm. My last 2 cars have been Mercedes and I must tell you that I think the build quality and details of the Audi are superior. I do not fit the demographics (34 yr. old male) as I am 67. However, I am having a ball driving this auto. Went out in the country today and drove some back roads.
I was coming home on the interstate after buying the car and found myself at 95 before I realized it. This car feels wicked quick but stable and comfortable at speed.
90% of my driving is with the the tranny in the +- selection so that you are almost forced to use the paddles. I love the down shifts as well as the little farts between gears as it upshifts.
This is a GREAT little car
