Welcome PBT. I've got Ocean Blue also, with the grey interior and DSG. Still not using + - Much. Sport mode has been working well, but I'm gonna have to fill up soon. ha ha.

Was just looking at it in the garage thinking about going for a spin....ah, it's too late...maybe tomorrow.

Jefferson: I have to tell you that I have not had so much fun with a car in years. Would have been out playing on Sunday if I did not have so much work around the house to get out of the way. I still think this is wicked quick for a wagon (excuse me, SportBack) and probably as much power as FWD can handle for most dirvers. Chipping would create more torque steer and could get less experienced drivers in trouble quickly. Kind of like what happens to some of these young kids on those two wheel rice burners.

My car sounds as if it is excatly the same as yours. Looks great, drives great........ I hope the new does not quickly wear off. Here is looking to many adventures down the road. Want to take it to the mountain back roads after the first of the year. If they come out with a 2.0 FSI Quattro next year I will get one and chip it. That Euproean delivery looks like fun

The 2.0T Quattro is a great car. I have one on order, arriving January 2007.

What was Audi thinking - not offering it to you in the U.S.....

They just don't want impact their # 1 selling A4 Quattro 2.0T, what else. IMHO I think they need to expand the options available for the 4 door A3 sportsback, especially compared to what you can order in Europe!

Me Too PBT. The Fun factor is definitely there. I've owned a lot of Hondas and Acuras previously that were fun to drive, but to get the torque you had to really wind them up to 6500 RPMs to get anything close to the Torque this 2.0 FSI puts out. Which kind of gave the driver a chance to get out of trouble if they had to much torque steer.

I had a 2000 Acura Integra Type-R limited edition for a couple years (They only made a couple thousand of these). It was the real deal, not any aftermarket stuff added. That car was race ready from the factory. Stuck to the roads like glue, stopped on a dime. Had a 1.8L engine that put out 200HP but a lot less torque. It red-lined at 8400RPMs and you pretty much had to get it there for full torque. The suspension was so tight it was like a go kart. Lots of fun to drive, but torture for any passengers on a long trip. It was a hard one to sell, but practicallity caused me too several years back.

But now the fun is back. The ride is so nice in this A3. The acceleration with the immediate Torque, the cornering, but still supple ride. Nice luxury too. I'm definitely ready for that. Chipping isn't a priority for me, but hmmmm.....

I am a "manual" driver gone DSG. There are times when I miss clutching and a manual gearbox.

I couldn't take it knowing that the A3 manual had a sixth gear! in my old manual 5-speed I would always wish for that extra gear. When I researched the A3 I found that the DSG gets a bit more horse power than its manual sibling. DSG it is and I still get the extra gear!

D mode auto shifts at 2500rpm or so
S-mode increases the RPM levels at which it shifts (maybe 4500rpm). Down shifts more aggressively as well. If I happen to be driving along in D and I am approaching a stop with a bit of speed I drop it into S and it gears down and stops the car so beautifully. I end up doing it everytime and I save my brakes :-) I find S mode a great safety feature when you are in a situation when you need your car to respond now...and again it slows the car down nicely. One tip: If you are bombing along in D and you want to drop into S and fly, ease up on the throttle shift to S and then drop the hammer. a spilt sec execution. If you shift it into S while you are full on the throttle you will end up at an insane RPM. Easing off and then shifting allows the trans to engage the engine at a much more tolerable RPM. The sales guy that took my for a test drive did this and I thought he was going to blow the engine. made me me kringe.

I find that in D it doesn't naturally downgear to 1st as quick as I would like. At 4way stops were ya you need to legally stop but a quick 123 and I want to roll and not in 2nd. I drop it into S and that drops it right into 1st and away I go.

S stands for "sucks alot of gas" it can trim 100km per tank. but its fun. oh the downshifting is music to my ears.

Push the shifter to the right when in D and im back to the manual shifting with the shifter or the paddles. also fun. On the track I only use the paddles because my hands remain fixed in one spot white knuckles and all. regular driving requires hand over hand turns and other stimuli, too much goin on. so its back to S mode :-)
In "manual" i love the purr sound it gives when you up shift. almost like an F1 car. I do find that the paddles are not designed for ladies with small hands...I can use them but my finger tips barely reach.

Have fun with the DSG I am!

Niceness,

I keep reading your sig for the bluetooth. Parrot makes a system that will integrate with your steering wheel controls and give you "factory" bluetooth. It's a little more than I want to spend but more reasonable than the price from the factory. Do a web search and you'll find the info.

Cheers!
