Heavy Stop.Go traffic - dsg clutch wear?
Supposedly DSG clutches are designed for the life of the car. However the hell long THAT is. (To paraphrase Steven Colbert). After reading that I decided not to worry about it, nor try to outthink the gearbox. Still, starting uphill sometimes with the throttle floored and no clutch engagement is a bit off-putting to say the least.
it seems very very unlikely that the dsg go's into neutral when coasting read the manual about damage to the engine when using cruise control and putting it into neutral.(it will rev into the limiter when it detects a drop in speed). as for saving fuel: the engine go's into "cut off" mode .see the instant fuel consumption drop to 0after a few sec.when letting off the throttle while driving .most modern engines will do so already my calibra turbo did so
Logic would tell you that Audi designed the DSG and other related components to work best in normal-user conditions. A normal person, not knowing one bit about DSG, wouldn't shift into neutral at stoplights.
Just drive the DSG like a normal automatic.

I'm not concerned about stop-n-go. I'm interested personally in coasting - I also own a hybrid and really get a lot of benefit throwing her in neutral as I coast down a hill. My 2.0T A3 - DSG - seems to keep the car in gear when coasting (albeit 6th gear). Wish there were a neutral mode that didn't make me worry about longevity and warranty issues
