Default huge plume of smoke?

Engines been runin a little sluggish lately...
Gave er a bit of juice today to test er out and had er up to 5500 rpms in 3rd then suddenly a huge plume of smoke came off my back end....and i mean huge. 5500 rpms isnt to high?
one factor may be i filled up on some oil because my chech oil light came on....i sthis just excess oil?, if so why only at 5500rpms?
Car kept ruuning smoothly, parked it for about 5 hours. Then did the same thing agian, came off an onramp onto the 401 and 3rd, 5500-5800rpms, huge plum of smoke..
wats goin on?

Was the smoke blue? You should check your oil level like, ASAP. I read in one of the posts on here that it is worse to have too much oil than to be a little low in this engine. And FYI, low oil level won't throw a code, you will get a low oil level message on your DIS. Is the code still on? If so you should get it scanned, it may have something to do with your smoke plume.

smoke was bluish whitish...and after somre reading I am assuming i may have overfilled the oil. REason being the low oil code came on, and i didi check the level and it was dry. So I filled up, drove for about 15 mins and it was still on. Let it run idle for another 10 and still on.

How much damage did i do? and 5500rpms shouldnt be a problem right?
